COMPOSED, PERFORMED, RECORDED AND MIXED BY:

Emil Saiz

Using a collage of field recordings captured in spaces in and around Porto (in which the intersection and friction of these realities felt to me more sonically significant) as a "sound warp" of sorts, I lay down an array of textures, loops and subaquatic melodies processed in such a way as to generate abundant subharmonics and overtones (frequencies more akin to the rumble of magma flowing or the electric pulses of the nervous system) in order to weave a sonic tapestry that sows them together, trying to generate a listening experience that promotes empathy, slowing down, mutual respect, and trust. Sound as a vehicle for healing.

A collaboration with the Institute For Postnatural Studies, this sound piece was commissioned as part of The Listening Affect, a festival for sound ecologies and sonic entanglements that took place in Porto in November 2023, curated by the IPS and hosted by Galería Municipal do Porto. It resonated through the halls of the Galería da Biodiversidade at Jardim Botânico do Porto throughout the festival, becoming, as it were, the silence between the sets.
